Setting Up for SNAP HA™

About SnapReplicate™ and SNAP HA™

Setting up SnapReplicate™ provides replication of data between SoftNAS instances for greater redundancy. SNAP HA™ , on the other hand, adds an additional layer of protection, by providing load balancing between your SoftNAS instances.

Overview

The following are required for a successful SNAPReplicate™ and SNAP HA™ setup.

Create virtual network (public and private subnets)

For more information, see section Creating a SoftNAS Virtual Machine.

Deploy 2 instances into the private subnets (into different regions for greater redundancy)

Configure SoftNAS SnapReplicate™ for Microsoft Azure.

For more information, see section Setting Up SnapReplicate™ and SNAP HA™.

Load Balancing in Microsoft Azure

In MS Azure, when you configure SnapReplicate™ HA, an additional virtual machine is created in Azure, which will act as a load balancer. The SoftNAS Load Balancer, performs the following

load balances NAS client storage traffic between the private subnets

transparently handles port translation, and IP routing tables to enable network address translation (NAT).
